The city was originally called Dividings because it sat at the divide between three important Cherokee trails. The town was later renamed for Judge Augustin S. Clayton in 1823, who served on both the Georgia House of Representatives and Georgia Senate. In 1957, part of the Disney film, Old Yeller, was shot in Clayton.
Black Rock Mountain State Park is not only the highest park in Georgia but it has some of the most beautiful scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains. You will find four unique hiking trails and mountaintop cottages.
