Though Woodstock was the name of the area since it was settled and there was a postmaster here as early as 1833, it wasn’t officially a city until 1897. Due to the arrival of the railroad, Woodstock became a shipping hub in the late 1800s with cotton, rope and other agricultural products leading the way.
