Quick History
The city is named after Captain James Lawrence, a naval commander during the War of 1812. Lawrence’s dying words are what he is best known for, as he commanded his troops, “Don’t give up the ship!” The first courthouse in Lawrenceville was built in 1823 for $4,000.

The obvious must see attraction for Lawrenceville is the Gwinnett Braves, the AAA minor league team for the Atlanta Braves. Some of the most popular current and former Braves players came through the Gwinnett farm team, such as Freddie Freeman, Craig Kimbrel, Brian McCann, Kris Medlen and Julio Teherán.
