Quick History
Named after naval hero Stephen Decatur, the city of Decatur was established in 1822 at the intersection of two Native American trails, the Sandtown and the Shallowford. The city was a highly contested area during the Civil War, becoming a pivotal in William Sherman’s campaign to take control of Atlanta.
