Quick History
Founded in 1886 along the line of the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad, the town of Blue Ridge originally wasn’t the seat of Fannin County. The planners of the railroad decided to avoid Morganton, the original county seat, which led to the newly formed Blue Ridge being made the seat in 1895.
Can't Miss
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway is one of the loveliest experiences someone can have in north Georgia. The train ride, which is operated out of the more than 100-year-old depot, travels for four hours and covers 26 miles. With a two hour layover in McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennesee (a town split into two by the GA/TN state line), there will be plenty of opportunities to eat, shop and visit.
