Natural Cleaning Recipes to Replace Your Household Cleaners

If you are looking to limit the number of harsh cleaning chemicals in your home, there are lots of natural alternatives that you can make from things that you likely already have in your kitchen. Not only will these natural cleaning recipes keep things green, but they can be used on multiple surfaces. We have put together a list of some of the most popular items that can be used for multiple cleaning uses. Here is a list of the basic ingredients that you will need to get started:

  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Lemon Juice
  • Olive Oil
  • Essential Oils
  • Coarse Salt

Toilet Scrub – Pour ½ cup baking soda and 10 drops tea tree oil into the toilet then add ¼ vinegar. As the mixture fizzes and deodorizes, scrub the interior of the bowl and simply flush when done.

Mildew on Tile – Spray pure white vinegar on the area and let sit for 30 minutes then rinse with warm water. Scrub area with sponge if mildew persists.

All-Purpose Cleaner – Add equal parts vinegar and water to a spray bottle. This can be used on countertops or stovetops. You can also replace the vinegar for vodka to lower the acidity.

Glass Cleaner – Add 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water and a squeeze of lemon juice to spray bottle. Spritz and wipe away as you would any other glass cleaner.

Cast-Iron Pan Cleaner – Mix olive oil and a teaspoon of coarse salt to the pan then scrub with a stiff brush until clean. Simply rinse with hot water and you’re done.

Cutting Board Sanitizer –Slice a lemon in half, run cut side over cutting board, and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with hot water and done. If more scrubbing power is needed, sprinkle coarse salt on the board, then rub with lemon half.
