Grim lands large office lease

John Grim of the Perimeter office is a poster boy for new agents who achieve Atlanta commercial real estate success.

He received his real estate license in 2006 and enrolled in Metro Brokers/GMAC Real Estate’s commercial and business brokerage classes in June. Determined to be successful in commercial real estate, Grim began running ads in local newspapers and networking at public zoning meetings, the International Council of Shopping Centers meetings, and other professional groups.

Just one year after receiving his real estate license, Grim’s hard work paid off. According to Dorey’s Office Deal Activity Report, Grim had the 12th largest office leasing deal (ranked by square footage) in metro Atlanta in January. He also had the largest office leasing deal (ranked by volume) at Metro Brokers in January.

Representing the leasee, ECS Inc.—a software company in Atlanta, Grim worked on the deal for three months. As a result, ECS leased more than 10,000 square feet of office space on Ravinia Drive from Three Ravinia.

Grim’s recommendations for breaking into commercial real estate: Get your name and what you do in front of the right person; know who is the decision maker (it’s not necessarily the CEO); and attend professional group meetings and planning meetings in your county or city to meet business owners.
