Five minutes before 5pm on Sunday, Dec. 10, Javier Granda of the Woodstock office was thinking of closing shop. It was close to freezing outside, and no visitors had come by the open house, which was donated by Reed Williams of the Woodstock office, all day. Just when he thought that it was time to go, a knock came at the door.

Melanie Bappert of the Woodstock office had seen the home several times, but had never had a chance to look inside. The only reason Bappert had been able to come on that day, Super Sunday, was that her college class had let out early. It was almost as if fate meant for her to be the $1,000 Super Sunday winner.

“We just moved to Georgia to be closer to my relatives,” explained Bappert. “When my husband and I buy a home, we want to stay close to our family and this home is right in their neighborhood. We have five children and we need someone close to help us take care of them.”

Granda was so happy for Bappert to win the $1,000, especially after hearing her fascinating story. Bappert worked with a special care facility up north before moving down to Georgia. During her time at the facility, she and her family became very close with a man with Down Syndrome.

“When we moved to Georgia, we decided to bring him along,” said Bappert. “We wouldn’t have left him.”

In addition to taking care of her family, Bappert is working to earn a college degree. They are currently staying with relatives, but plan to move soon because there just isn’t enough room.

“The home is nice and big, and it’s a great deal!” said Bappert. “I can’t believe I won, it’s incredible!”

Granda is currently helping her with making an offer on that home as well as looking at other homes in the area. He has hosted several Super Sunday open houses and thinks it’s a great way to dedicate time as a Realtor.

“Twenty people can come by, but if just one special person decides to visit and I’m able to help out, it’s great,” said Granda.

Winners are announced every month on or around the 19th.
